Long ago, when the world was still forming, the gods inhabited man-made jewels to assist the therians into morphing the world, bringing freedom and harmony.
But one day, one of said jewels, the collar of balance, was stolen by an unknown thief, and since then, the balance of the universe has been threatened, which meant that the gods had to intervene once more to bring back peace.
And like that, the brooch of life and pendant of death chose new holders to try and rescue the lost artifact, but that came at the cost of the holder's personal life to change drastically, for better or worse.
